Dizziness and vertigo can be very disabling and severely interrupt your work and everyday activities. Both these symptoms can be caused by a number of conditions. It is important that you are accurately assessed by your doctor and physiotherapist to ascertain the exact cause of the issue.
Dizziness can often be the result of dysfunction or injury to your neck. Physiotherapists are ideally placed to assess and diagnose whether your dizziness is a result of a neck problem.
Vertigo is defined as “the sensation of spinning or the room spinning around you”. It is often associated with a feeling of nausea or sickness and can affect your balance. Vertigo is generally caused by a problem with your vestibular system which is the balance system of your inner ear.
There are certain vestibular problems such as BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) or vestibular hypofunction that can be easily treated by your physiotherapist.
If you are experiencing dizziness or vertigo then book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists. If the issue is to do with your neck or vestibular system we may be able to help.
