Sciatica is a term that refers to pain arising from the Sciatic nerve. You will usually feel pain arising from your low back or buttocks that “shoots” down the back of one or both or your legs. You may experience “electric shock” type pain, pins and needles or numbness. Sciatica can be caused from a variety of issues including:
- Disc prolapse or “bulging”
- Arthritis in the low back
- Poor posture and lifting technique
- Piriformis syndrome (tightness of buttocks muscles)
- Low back strain
